Simply put, fostering saves lives. Being a foster parent for a pet in need increases the chance of a successful move for that animal into a permanent home. You get to become an integral part of helping that animal decompress from the shelter or life on the streets, and oftentimes, you are the first loving human interaction they experience. Being part of this important period of transition is an incredibly rewarding experience. Many people are concerned that they may get too emotionally attached to the foster animals and choose not to foster. Remember that opening your home to a foster will open a space for another dog or cat in need. If you want to make the biggest impact for rescue animals, fostering is the way to go.
What does a foster provide?
A foster famiily is responsible for providing a loving and nurturing environment, exercise, mental stimulation and occasionally help with transportation to and from the vet or adoption events - that's it! We take care of all the expenses for food, veterinary care, and supplies. If you choose to provide any of the food or supplies, it is certainly appreciated and a donation receipt can be given to you as a tax write off.

In addition to fostering, there are many ways you can help make a difference with DiOGi CARES. We are always in need of volunteers to help transport rescues to and from the vet, adoption events, do home checks, etc... We also need volunteers to work at our fundraising events and festival booths. You can also help with our free community dog training classes or take a dog out for the day with an adopt me vest to help that pet get exposure to potential adopters.
